McDonald's plans to add more low-cost items to its US menu next year to win back customers squeezed by the cost of living, CBS News reports.
Chief executive Christopher Kempczinski told analysts on Wednesday that the chain has begun an eight-week trial of cheaper options at 1,900 US restaurants and is also testing mix-and-match bundles, with a national launch planned for 2027. He admitted the company had not done enough for lower-income diners.
The chain's results showed US comparable sales fell 0.2% between July and September, against growth of 2.4% a year earlier. CBS cited Placer.ai data showing visits to US outlets down 4.6% on last year. Petrol prices have risen 38% since the start of the Iran war, according to motoring group AAA.
