Privacy and cookies

Last updated: 18 October 2026

This page explains what personal information Kilwhiss News collects when you visit kilwhiss.news or contact us, why, and what your rights are under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

Who we are

Kilwhiss News is responsible for the personal information described here. You can contact us about privacy at hello@kilwhiss.news.

The short version

  • You can read the site without an account. We do not run advertising, analytics or social media tracking.
  • The site does not set cookies for ordinary visitors.
  • Like every website, our hosting and security software record technical details of visits (such as your IP address) to keep the site running and secure.
  • If you email us, we use your message and email address to reply.
  • We do not sell your information.

Information we collect and why

When you visit the site

Our website is hosted by 20i, and pages are delivered through its content delivery and caching network (StackCDN). As with any web host, its servers automatically record technical information when pages are requested: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, your browser type and the referring page. We also run security software (All-In-One Security) that may record IP addresses and request details to block malicious traffic, spam and attempts to break into the site. Our SEO plugin (Rank Math) may keep a log of addresses that return a “page not found” error, with the referring page and browser details, so we can fix broken links.

We use this information only to run, secure and fix the website. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in providing a working and secure website. Logs are kept for a limited period and then deleted or overwritten in line with our host’s and plugins’ settings.

When you email us

If you write to hello@kilwhiss.news, we receive your email address, name (if included) and whatever you choose to tell us. We use it to reply, to investigate corrections and to consider tips. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us. We keep correspondence only as long as we need it for these purposes. If you send us a news tip, please tell us if you do not want to be named.

Cookies

Kilwhiss News does not use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and ordinary visitors are not given any cookies. Strictly necessary cookies are set only for people who log in to manage the site. If we ever add analytics, embedded videos or other features that set non-essential cookies, we will update this page and ask for your consent first.

Links, images and embedded content

Our stories summarise and link to reporting by other news organisations. When you follow a link to another website, that site’s own privacy and cookie policies apply. Some stories use freely licensed photos from Wikimedia Commons; we store copies of these images on our own site, so viewing them does not send your information to Wikimedia. If a story includes an embedded video or post from another service (such as YouTube), that service may collect information about you when you view it.

Who we share information with

We use service providers to host the website and our email, and to store website backups. They process information on our behalf and only as needed to provide those services. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we only disclose it to others where the law requires us to.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it, delete it or limit how we use it. You can also object to how we use it. To make a request, email hello@kilwhiss.news. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this page

We will update this page if the way we handle personal information changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
