Lena Patyayeva, who lives in St Petersburg, has been ordered by a court in Grozny to pay a 150,000-rouble fine for a one-person protest over the disappearance of her friend Seda Suleimanova, Meduza reports, citing Mediazona.
Patyayeva was detained in August after standing at a monument in the Chechen capital with a sign demanding an investigation into Suleimanova's suspected murder. The court treated it as a repeat breach of protest rules; she was jailed for nine days last year over an earlier picket.
Suleimanova had fled her family in 2022 to avoid a forced marriage. In 2023 police in St Petersburg detained her over a theft complaint from her mother and took her back to Chechnya, where she was handed to relatives. She has not been seen since, and Russian investigators opened a murder case in 2024.
