Nigeria's under-17 women's team, the Flamingos, beat Venezuela 1-0 in Morocco on Sunday to reach the semi-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, Premium Times reports.
Captain Azeezat Oduntan converted a late penalty, one minute from the end of normal time, after Oluebube Umejiaku was brought down in the box. Venezuela's goalkeeper, Valeria Rebanales, had kept Nigeria out with several saves, and her side had knocked out Germany in the previous round.
It is only the second time Nigeria have reached the last four of the tournament, following their third-place finish in India in 2022. Akeem Busari's team lost their opening group game to Poland but recovered with wins over Puerto Rico and defending champions North Korea, before beating Mexico 2-1 in the round of 16.
