Quebec Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon has said Quebecers are probably changing their clocks for the final time this weekend, as his Parti Québécois government moves to end the twice-yearly time change, CTV News reports.
In a social media post, he cited studies suggesting that changing the clocks harms health and is hard for children to adjust to. He said the government would consult specialists through a parliamentary committee in the coming months, including on whether Quebec should stay permanently on standard time or on daylight time.
Remaining on standard time would mean summer sunrises around 4am in Montreal. The previous Coalition Avenir Québec government held a public consultation on the issue in 2024 but did not legislate. Clocks go back at 2am on Sunday 1 November.
