Nigeria’s education minister says Tinubu’s record justifies re-election in 2027

·

Nigeria's Education Minister Tunji Alausa has said President Bola Tinubu deserves a second term at the election on 16 January 2027, Premium Times reports. Speaking on Channels Television, Alausa said the government had transformed every sector, pointing to foreign reserves of more than $55 billion, a stabilised exchange rate, economic growth and states being able to pay salaries.

He said the administration had delivered fully on education, citing the student loan scheme, a technical and vocational training programme and higher allowances for university staff. Premium Times noted that many Nigerians are still struggling with the effects of the government's economic reforms, which have prompted a series of protests, and that the president himself acknowledged the hardship in his Independence Day address while arguing the reforms were needed to correct the country's course.
