Former armed police chief Wang Ning expelled from China’s top advisory body

·

Wang Ning, a former commander of China's People's Armed Police, has been removed from the country's top political advisory body, the South China Morning Post reports, citing state news agency Xinhua.

His seat on the CPPCC, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, was revoked at the close of its latest session, chaired by Wang Huning, the party's fourth-ranking leader. The Post says Wang is the third head of the paramilitary force in a row to fall from favour in the past 15 years.

Beijing keeps most investigations within the military secret, so the removal of retired generals from the legislature and advisory bodies has become one of the main public signs of who is under scrutiny. The report suggests the move reflects growing attention to China's internal security apparatus.
