Legal online gambling in Alberta generated around $56.6 million in gross revenue between its launch on 13 July and the end of September, CBC News reports, citing the first market report from the Alberta iGaming Corporation.
The Crown corporation said the number of player accounts climbed from almost 270,000 to roughly 389,000 over the period, with average revenue of about $146 per active account. Monthly revenue rose steadily from $22.2 million.
About three-quarters of the money came from online casino games, around a fifth from sports and event betting and the remainder from live casino play. An AIGC official, Marvin Lim, said the figures showed players and operators were moving to the regulated market. Alberta is the second province to open a fully regulated market to private online gaming companies. Further monthly reports are expected.
