South Africa captain Temba Bavuma scored 179 to lead a remarkable recovery on day three of the second Test against Australia at St George's Park in Gqeberha, ABC News reports. The hosts began the day on 5-97 and slipped to 6-110 when Mitchell Starc removed Wiaan Mulder for his 450th Test wicket. Starc is only the fourth Australian to reach that mark, after Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and Nathan Lyon.
Bavuma, making his fifth Test century, put on 132 for the seventh wicket with Marco Jansen, who made 85, and a South African record 183 for the eighth with Simon Harmer. South Africa declared on 9-425. Australia lost Nic Maddinson for a duck to Kagiso Rabada in fading light and will resume on day four at 1-3, 422 runs behind. With time already lost in the match, a result may be hard to force.
