Soldiers and police in Ecuador seized about 100 firearms, including rifles and military-grade weapons, from arsenals hidden in bunkers during an operation lasting less than a week, according to the broadcaster Teleamazonas, as reported by The Rio Times.
The Rio Times says the figure is the network's own and that it could find no itemised official tally from the police, interior ministry or armed forces. It is not clear whether all the finds were in Guayaquil, the country's largest city, which a version of the headline suggested.
The armed forces chief, General Henry Delgado, said earlier this month that the military alone had seized 3,167 firearms so far this year. The United States designated the Ecuadorian gangs Los Choneros and Los Lobos as foreign terrorist organisations in September 2025.
