Health Canada has told people to stop using balloon blowing kits sold through the Walmart.ca Marketplace straight away because of a chemical hazard, Global News reports.
The kits, supplied by the Chinese sellers Tojiyi and PawBabyBloom, contain a solvent paste squeezed on to a plastic straw so children can blow a bubble. Kits of this kind are banned under Canada's toy regulations, as children can breathe in the solvent vapours. The agency warned that prolonged use could cause dizziness, hallucinations, euphoria and problems with coordination.
According to Health Canada, only six units were sold in Canada and the products have been taken off sale. No incidents or injuries have been reported. The regulator said it had contacted the foreign third-party sellers.
