Jimmy Anderson, England's leading Test wicket-taker, will leave Lancashire after the county decided not to offer him a playing contract for 2027, ABC News reports.
The 44-year-old fast bowler, who took 704 Test wickets, has spent 25 years with his home county. He said in a statement that playing for the club he had supported as a child had been a dream, and that it would not have ended this way if the choice had been his.
Paul Farbrace, Lancashire's incoming director of cricket, said the club wanted to rebuild its men's squad to win promotion from Division Two of the County Championship and then challenge in Division One within three to four years.
Anderson captained the red-ball side in 2026 and took 50 wickets at an average of 17.68 but Lancashire finished seventh of eight in the division.
