A federal judge in Boston has blocked part of the Trump administration's guidance on Medicaid work requirements, ruling that chronically ill people should not have to meet a stricter test to be exempt, PBS NewsHour reports, citing the Associated Press.
The case was brought in June by 25 states and the District of Columbia over guidance from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services linked to the 2025 tax and spending law. The law lists groups who count as medically frail, including blind and disabled people and those with serious medical conditions or substance use disorders.
The federal rule went further by also requiring people in those groups to show their condition significantly limited their ability to meet the work rules. Judge Richard Stearns gave the states a partial victory, finding they faced irreparable harm from costly changes to their systems.
