A school bus driver in central New York has been arrested after a five-year-old pupil was pulled along behind the vehicle with a backpack trapped in its door, NBC News reports.
The Oneida County Sheriff's Office said Tasha Van Dayne, 37, of Clinton, was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, a misdemeanour. Deputies said the driver shut the door as the last of several children got off at a home on Monday afternoon, trapping the bag. The child was pulled some distance before the bus stopped and suffered minor injuries.
Clinton Central School District said the driver would no longer transport pupils and described the incident as frightening for the child and for the classmates who saw it. Van Dayne is due in court on 16 November and did not immediately respond to NBC's request for comment.
