Scotland Yard officers investigating Russell Brand have asked anyone else harmed by him to contact police after Thursday’s convictions, revealing that two additional rape claims are under active inquiry and that a civil action has been lodged in Britain. Det Supt Andy Furphy, who leads the Met’s work on the case, called Brand a predator and said the comedian’s behaviour worsened as his profile grew. A London jury found Brand, 51, guilty of one rape and three sexual assaults spanning five years at the peak of his fame, while acquitting him on other charges. Detectives said the new inquiries mean people who previously stayed silent may now feel safer reporting what happened.
