Poll finds fewer Canadians say there are too many immigrants

·

Concern about immigration levels in Canada appears to be easing, according to an EKOS poll for the Association for Canadian Studies reported by the National Post.

Across the 10 provinces, 45% of respondents said Canada takes too many immigrants, 31% said the number was about right and 13% said it was too low. That share is 13 points lower than in a Leger poll from March 2025.

Views varied by region. Manitoba and Saskatchewan were the most likely to say there are too many immigrants, at 52%, followed by Atlantic Canada at 50%. British Columbia and Quebec were the least likely, at 39% and 40%.

The association's president, Jack Jedwab, said a large plurality still felt numbers were too high but concern had loosened. The poll comes before Mark Carney's government sets out immigration levels for the next three years, ahead of a budget on 5 November.
