Australia secured a place in the Rugby League World Cup semi-finals by beating Fiji 36-22 at Lang Park in Brisbane on Sunday, but only after a strong challenge from the outsiders, ABC News reports.
Fiji, priced at 50-1 before the match, led 10-6 after half an hour through tries from Semi Valemei and Taane Milne, and went ahead again shortly after half-time. Tom Trbojevic then scored three tries in a row to swing the game Australia's way. Fiji's Kurt Donoghoe was named player of the match after setting up three tries, and Valemei finished with a hat-trick.
Coach Kevin Walters said his side needed more from every player. Australia have now won both pool games, while Fiji can still reach the last four if they beat New Zealand next week.
