New South Wales police have arrested a 32-year-old man they believe walked through the Sydney suburb of Dulwich Hill carrying a sawn-off shotgun on Friday, the Sydney Morning Herald reports. Police allege he was confronted over a van stolen days earlier, set it alight near Williams Parade and Constitution Road, threatened three people with the gun and then ran off.
Schools, cafes and businesses were locked down for several hours while tactical officers and the police helicopter searched the area. Detectives from Strike Force Ranilo arrested the man in Burwood late on Sunday, saying he again tried to evade officers. He was treated in hospital for injuries suffered during the arrest and has not yet been charged. The shotgun has not been found.
