Egypt's parliament has put off a vote on allowing its armed forces to help defend Saudi Arabia against attacks by Yemen's Houthis, pushing it back to 26 October, Al Jazeera reports.
The opposition Egyptian Social Democratic Party told its members to abstain, saying lawmakers had not been told enough about the mission's aims, length, cost or risks to troops. Sending troops on a combat mission abroad needs a two-thirds majority after approval from the National Defence Council, which gave its backing on Sunday.
The request follows Houthi attacks last week on Riyadh's international airport and on Saudi Aramco; Saudi authorities say 13 people died at the airport on 10 October. President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said Egypt was talking only about defence. Egyptian shares dipped early on Monday before closing slightly higher.
