Senator Lisa Murkowski, a Republican, has backed Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, the only Democrat standing for governor of Alaska, Alaska’s News Source reports.
Murkowski told the station that the former Sitka state legislator, widely known as JKT, brought a perspective the state needed. She has crossed party lines before, including endorsing Democrat Mary Peltola for the US House in 2024.
Kreiss-Tomkins faces three Republicans: Bernadette Wilson, who has President Trump’s endorsement, Dave Bronson and Treg Taylor. Wilson and Mr Trump have both urged the other two to withdraw to avoid splitting the Republican vote. A New York Times/Siena poll in September put Kreiss-Tomkins on about 40 per cent among likely voters, ahead of Wilson on 20 per cent. Mr Trump has repeatedly attacked Murkowski and criticised Alaska’s ranked-choice voting system.
