Elon Musk has said he will give one of his SpaceX shares to every child in the United States next year, CNBC reports. Musk made the pledge in a post on X on Monday, calling it the first of many, but gave no details of how the giveaway would work. CNBC said it had asked SpaceX for comment.
According to CNBC's calculations, with about 72 million under-18s in the US and SpaceX shares closing at $146.03 on Friday, the gift would be worth roughly $10.5bn. Musk holds about 4.8 billion SpaceX shares, according to an August filing. His announcement followed Anthropic's plan to place 5% of its shares in a new public benefit fund; Musk replied to Anthropic's post about it by recommending that shares be given directly to the public.
