With Republicans having lost both chambers of Congress in the midterms, President Donald Trump faces a choice on Iran between negotiating, escalating or holding steady, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty reports.
Vice President JD Vance blamed the defeat on the war, and Trump called that largely true while saying he would make the same decision again. Democrats do not take over until January, and US-based security analyst Shayan Samii told RFE/RL's Radio Farda that Trump has about two months to act free of electoral pressure; any bill curbing the war would need his signature or a two-thirds override.
Rome-based analyst Shahin Modarres predicted a severe new phase. Analysts noted that Iran's main oil terminal at Kharg Island has so far been hit only at military sites, while the blockade has cut Iranian oil exports to almost nothing.
