A black bear wandered into the Mammoth Lakes branch of the Mono County free libraries in California early last Wednesday, more than four hours before opening time, and helped itself to the staff snacks, The Guardian reports.
Library director Josef Bopp told local outlet KMPH that the bear ate peanut butter, fruit cups, biscuits and a jar of honey. Security camera footage released by the county education office shows it sniffing books and furniture as it ambled past the new releases and the reference desk, before leaving on its own.
The visit fell on the 100th anniversary of AA Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh, and the library joked that its visitor may have been looking for a copy. Mr Bopp reminded patrons, and bears, that snacks are not part of the lending collection.
