Brentford have passed to the Metropolitan Police an incident in which a rugby ball was kicked from a nearby rooftop towards the pitch during Saturday's Premier League match against Liverpool, GB News reports.

Video shared widely online appeared to show a person launching the ball from a building close to the Gtech Community Stadium. It seemed to hit the stadium roof before staff were seen removing it from the playing area. The club said the behaviour was dangerous and could have caused serious harm, and that it was helping police identify those responsible, which could lead to criminal charges.

Brentford stressed that the safety of fans, staff, players and officials on matchdays was paramount. The ground sits among homes and businesses, which the report said makes security harder. Brentford lost the match 2-1 after finishing with nine players.
