Supporters of Alaska's open primaries and ranked choice voting have raised far more money than the campaign trying to scrap them, the Anchorage Daily News reports.
The No on 2 campaign has raised $10.4 million this year, including $1.7 million so far this month, while the campaign backing Ballot Measure 2 has raised $2.5 million. The measure would repeal the open primary system, ranked choice general elections and campaign finance reporting rules that voters adopted in 2020.
Repeal is backed by Alaska Republican Party leaders, Governor Mike Dunleavy, the Republican candidates to succeed him and donors including Elon Musk. Opponents include the Legislature's bipartisan coalitions, labour unions, the Alaska Federation of Natives and the billionaire Kathryn Murdoch. A 2024 repeal attempt narrowly failed, and recent polling suggests another close result.
