The UN General Assembly has again voted to call on the United States to end its economic embargo on Cuba, but with notably less support than last year, The Rio Times reports.
The Cuban-drafted resolution passed by 130 votes to 17, with 25 abstentions, compared with 165 in favour, seven against and 12 abstentions in 2025. It was the 34th such vote since 1992. The resolution is not binding, and only the US Congress can lift the core embargo laws.
The vote followed a heated debate on Tuesday in which US ambassador Mike Waltz said there was no blockade, citing US exports to Cuba, and Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez interrupted him, prompting a brief suspension. The UN has not explained the drop in support, and the outlet said it could not confirm how each country voted.
