More than 58,000 Alaskans had cast early or absentee ballots by Tuesday afternoon, a week before the 3 November general election, already beating the early vote total for the 2022 midterms, the Alaska Beacon reports.
State Division of Elections figures show 34,738 people voted at the 10 in-person early voting stations between 19 and 26 October. Registered Republicans made up 26.7% of early voters and Democrats 18.4%. Democrats are 11.6% of the state's 604,771 registered voters, suggesting their turnout is proportionally higher.
Absentee ballots postmarked by election day can still be counted if they arrive by 13 November from within the US, or 18 November from abroad. Because Alaska uses ranked choice voting, results until 18 November will show only first-choice preferences.
