Polymarket halts trading after third-party breach and pledges to repay users

·

The prediction market platform Polymarket stopped trading on its international site for nearly an hour on Thursday after what it described as a compromise at one of its third-party providers, NBC News reports.

Some users said on the company's Discord channel that their wallets had been drained. Polymarket did not confirm any losses but said anyone affected would be made whole and that it was fully reimbursing affected traders. The crypto news site The Block, citing blockchain analysis firm Arkham, reported that about $2.65 million in cryptocurrency had been taken.

The company said it had fixed the problem and referred the matter to law enforcement. Trading resumed at 3pm Eastern time. Its US platform did not appear to be affected. Polymarket was valued at $21 billion in September after a $1 billion investment led by Donald Trump Jr.
