Google has added file editing to its Gemini assistant, so users can create, preview and change documents without leaving the chat, The Verge reports.
The feature works with Google Docs and Sheets, PDFs, presentations, code, and Markdown or plain text files. It is available to all Gemini users from Thursday. PDF previews and editing work on both the web and mobile apps, while the other formats are limited to the web version for now.
Users can expand a file to edit it full screen, or highlight part of it and ask Gemini a question or request a change, such as turning a table into a chart. Gemini could already generate downloadable files, and Google's Workspace apps had their own Gemini tools. The Verge notes that Anthropic added a similar document feature to Claude earlier this year.
