Canada's trade minister, Maninder Sidhu, has said Canadian companies want closer partnerships with the Indian state of Karnataka in quantum computing, artificial intelligence, aerospace and defence, The Hindu reports. Speaking on Friday while leading a senior Canadian trade delegation in India, Sidhu said a proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement could more than double two-way trade to $70 billion by 2030. He said the mission had produced more than 30 agreements worth nearly C$300 million, and pointed to Fairfax's planned purchase of a majority stake in IDBI Bank, valued at almost C$8 billion, as a sign of investor confidence. Asked about tighter rules for Indian students and workers, Sidhu said international students remained welcome but that immigration levels had to be sustainable for housing, healthcare and infrastructure.
