Yuki Chen, a prolific Chinese cybersecurity researcher described by the South China Morning Post as a "superstar" hacker, has joined Z.ai, one of China's leading developers of AI models.
Chen recently used Z.ai's flagship GLM models to uncover 23 security vulnerabilities in Microsoft's Windows operating system, the paper reports. Announcing the move on social media last week, Chen said the new role was a chance to help build a safer cyberspace using frontier AI.
The appointment comes amid growing concern about AI-assisted cyberattacks and AI agents acting beyond their instructions, with recent cases involving Tencent as well as the US companies OpenAI and Anthropic. Z.ai, previously known as Zhipu AI, is among the Chinese labs that release open-source models.
