Research commissioned by the Danish government has found that young men in Denmark can be shown misogynist videos on TikTok within minutes, even without searching for them, The Local Denmark reports. Researchers created eight fake profiles of men aged 16 and 19 with interests such as fitness, dating, investing and gaming, then let them scroll. On average such content appeared after about three minutes, and in one case after 21 seconds.
A separate year-long review of 29 young men's viewing histories found five to six misogynist videos a week in their feeds, though the researchers said that sample was not representative. Equality and Employment Minister Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen called the findings very serious and said social media needed tighter regulation, alongside more discussion of the issue in schools and families.
