Dropbox has agreed to buy cloud storage company Tigris Data for $350m, which appears to be its biggest acquisition so far, TechCrunch reports. The deal, announced on Thursday, is expected to complete in the fourth quarter.
Dropbox plans to use the technology for DBX Agent Cloud, a new storage platform for businesses and developers building AI models and agents. It will start with object storage compatible with tools made for Amazon S3. Tigris, founded by former Uber storage engineers, places data close to the users and computers that need it.
The company also said customers will be able to ask AI to carry out tasks on their files and link content to tools such as ChatGPT and Claude. Dropbox told TechCrunch it has no plans for job cuts linked to the purchase, after reportedly cutting 9% of staff last month.
