Gulf states back Saudi Arabia against Houthi attacks as Yemen fighting displaces 233,000

·

Foreign ministers of the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council condemned repeated Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia after meeting in Manama, Bahrain, on Sunday, saying an attack on one member was an attack on all, Al Jazeera reported.

The ministers called for stricter enforcement of the UN arms embargo on the Houthis and urged countries to designate the group a terrorist organisation. The Saudi-led coalition said it had shot down drones near Riyadh and in the Eastern Province earlier in the day.

Inside Yemen, government forces are pressing offensives on several fronts. The International Organization for Migration says more than 233,000 people have been displaced, about 121,000 of them in Taiz province. The World Health Organization warned that hospitals in Taiz have only a few days of fuel left.
