A 27-year-old Palestinian radiology technician in Hebron has had to put off his wedding indefinitely after an Israeli military operation forced him from his home, Al Jazeera reports.
Haidar Yahya Tamimi had furnished his home, chosen his suit and invited about 1,000 guests for a ceremony with his fiancée, Ruba, this Friday. He lives in the al-Jalada neighbourhood, one of the areas targeted after two Palestinian gunmen killed two Israeli soldiers at a checkpoint on the city’s western edge on 23 October. Both attackers were killed.
Israel’s prime minister ordered a lockdown of the city, and Israeli forces demolished buildings near the attack site and searched homes in the attackers’ neighbourhoods. Hebron’s municipality said more than 3,100 Palestinians had been displaced by Monday.
