Australia’s High Court has granted One Nation leader Pauline Hanson special leave to appeal a finding that she racially discriminated against Greens senator Mehreen Faruqi, The Guardian reports. The case stems from Hanson telling Faruqi to “pack your bags and piss off back to Pakistan”.
The full Federal Court earlier upheld a 2024 decision against Hanson. Justices will now test whether the comments breached the Racial Discrimination Act or whether the ruling curbs implied freedom of political communication. Hanson said Australians must be able to speak their minds; Faruqi replied “Bring it on,” saying people of colour deserve protection from racism.
