India's food safety regulator, the FSSAI, has sent notices to Nestle India and Zydus Wellness over what it called misleading claims on some products, The Hindu reports.
For Nestle, the regulator questioned a claim that whey protein in Lactogen Pro 1 is easy to digest, and asked for scientific evidence. It also said a statement that ingredients in Nan Excella Pro Stage 1 support the immune system broke rules barring disease-related claims unless specifically allowed.
Zydus was challenged over its Complan drink, whose packaging pictures children alongside claims of faster growth, better concentration and memory, and stronger immunity. The regulator said these breached India's 2018 advertising and claims regulations. Both companies have been told to explain within a set period why action should not be taken against them.
