Indonesia is considering using dry ice in more regions to tackle haze from forest fires after a trial in South Sumatra province was judged fairly effective, Singapore's CNA reports.
Kristomei Sianturi, the new head of the national disaster agency BNPB, said on Sunday that President Prabowo Subianto had told the agency to keep assessing whether the weather modification method helps bring rain and supports firefighting. South Sumatra's governor said about 1.6 tonnes of dry ice were being used each day. A meteorological official at Palembang's airport said results had been mixed, with visibility improving at times before worsening again in the evening. South Sumatra is one of six provinces Indonesia is prioritising for fire prevention, alongside Riau, Jambi and three provinces on Kalimantan.
