Jacinda Ardern, who led New Zealand as prime minister until 2023 and now lives in Australia, has taken up a part-time teaching and mentoring role at the University of Sydney, The Guardian reports.
Starting this month, she will work from the school of public health on themes including compassionate leadership, trust in institutions and how communities hold together, as well as equity and wellbeing in global health. The university said she would give guest lectures and masterclasses and mentor students, but that it was not a full-time teaching post.
Ms Ardern said she had become especially focused on leadership since leaving office. Vice-chancellor Mark Scott praised the courage and humanity she brought to public life. She stepped down in January 2023 after more than five years as prime minister, during which she led New Zealand through the Christchurch attack, the Whakaari eruption and the Covid pandemic.
