Several Juneau organisations will receive money from Alaska's Rural Health Transformation Program, which has awarded nearly $249m to 254 projects across the state, the Juneau Empire reports.
The Southeast Childhood Collective is getting about $215,000 to develop childcare for staff at Bartlett Regional Hospital, whose shifts can run through nights and weekends. Details, including how many employees need places and what hours a centre would keep, have yet to be agreed.
The Juneau Economic Development Council has been given $3.6m for early planning to turn the historic St. Ann's Center, the city's original hospital site, into a hub for older residents. A further $109,500 will set up a regional cancer support network. The awards, announced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, come from Alaska's existing $272.2m federal allocation rather than new money.
