Relatives of Kohen Wiley, a one-year-old killed in a police shooting in Mississippi, have criticised the state attorney general's finding that the shooting was justified, after footage of the incident became public, The Guardian reports.
The attorney general, Lynn Fitch, announced the conclusion on Monday. At a press conference in Senatobia on Thursday, the family's lawyers, Ben Crump and Van Turner, said five officers approached a car carrying the boy, his mother and a friend with guns drawn while responding to a reported theft of nappies.
Crump called the response excessive from the start and noted that neither woman was arrested for shoplifting. Both of the child's grandmothers spoke of their grief and anger. The lawyers are calling for a federal investigation. Kohen would have turned two on 1 November.
