President Donald Trump has accused the basketball star LeBron James of disrespecting the United States during the national anthem at a recent NBA game, Al Jazeera reports.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump shared a video of James standing in line with Philadelphia 76ers team-mates while stretching his arms and making shooting motions as the anthem played. Trump said James should apologise to those who had died for the American flag.
The 76ers did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Trump has often criticised athletes over their conduct during the anthem, beginning with the American football quarterback Colin Kaepernick's kneeling protests, and in 2018 he called off the Philadelphia Eagles' White House visit. James has long been an outspoken supporter of progressive causes.
