Donald Trump has said he raised the idea of renaming the Atlantic Ocean on Google Maps with Google's chief executive, Sundar Pichai, and was refused, The Guardian reports.
Telling a rally in South Carolina on Wednesday about the call, the president said Pichai objected that oceans were different because they border many countries. Trump then told the crowd he would probably let the idea go and keep the Atlantic's name. The Guardian said it had asked Google for comment.
Google previously went along with Trump's executive orders that gave the Gulf of Mexico and Lake Ontario new American names, displaying them to US users while people in Mexico and Canada still see the original labels. Trump has also floated renaming the Strait of Hormuz after himself.
