Yemen's internationally recognised government has warned people in Houthi-held areas to stay away from gatherings organised by the group, saying they are used to recruit children and young people as fighters and will be treated as legitimate military targets, The National reports.
The Defence Ministry said tribal mobilisation events, rallies and cultural courses were being used for recruitment. The US chargé d'affaires in Yemen, Neil Hop, also accused the Houthis of sending children to the front line.
The warning comes as fighting between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia escalates. The Houthis said they had struck the Saudi Defence Ministry in Riyadh, Dammam and Abha airports and an Aramco site in Yanbu over two days. Saudi Arabia said four people had been killed in attacks on Dammam airport and near the Shaybah oilfield.
