Labour MPs in Leave-voting seats in the north and Midlands have urged Prime Minister Andy Burnham not to reopen the Brexit question, GB News reports.
Burnham, who told voters in his Makerfield constituency he would not revisit Brexit, said in his first conference speech as Labour leader that he would consider an application for the UK to rejoin the EU. Hartlepool MP Jonathan Brash told the Telegraph the country could not keep "playing a sort of Brexit Hokey Cokey", while North Northumberland MP David Smith said the 2016 vote was a generational decision. Both had backed Remain.
Graham Stringer, the only Labour MP who supported Leave in 2016, has also warned against rejoining. Senior figures Jonathan Reynolds and Lisa Nandy have reportedly urged the Prime Minister not to reignite the debate.
