Former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has accused India's central authorities of "state-sponsored terrorism" over the continued detention of two leaders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), The Hindu reports.
Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, the CJP's co-convenors, were held after allegedly climbing a locked gate to enter Jantar Mantar in Delhi, shortly after it stopped being a designated protest site, and chanting slogans against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. First sent to judicial custody for five days on 13 October, they were remanded for two more days on Monday.
In a post on X, the Trinamool Congress leader alleged the pair were being tortured and demanded their release. The CJP says bail proceedings have been deliberately delayed. The two are due to appear before a special executive magistrate again on Wednesday.
