Manitoba Conservation investigates pile of dead Canada geese dumped near Garson

·

Manitoba Conservation is investigating after a road worker found between 15 and 20 dead Canada geese dumped in a ditch just north of Garson, north-east of Winnipeg, CBC News reports.

Scott Peluk, a grader operator for the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead, spotted the whole carcasses on Friday morning near Mile 33 Road and said some had what looked like blood marks. It has not been confirmed whether the birds were shot. Peluk suggested hunters may have exceeded their daily limit and thrown the birds away to avoid a fine; under Manitoba's 2026 rules, licensed hunters may take eight Canada geese a day and possess 24.

He posted a photograph on social media and said wasting the meat was wrong. Conservation officers have removed the carcasses, and the department told CBC it was aware of the case.
