Three masked men armed with axes and a hammer allegedly burst into a dairy in Upper Hutt, near Wellington, on Tuesday evening and took the till, RNZ reports.
The owner, Sonia, who has run Racecourse Dairy on Ararino Street with her husband for nine years, told RNZ the raid at about 5.30pm lasted only minutes. Her husband pulled her clear as one man jumped onto the counter. She said the till held little more than small change because she empties it often.
She memorised the getaway car’s number plate and called police. Officers later laid road spikes on State Highway 1 to stop the men, who crashed in a car believed to have been stolen.
