Former acting SAA chief Matshela Seshibe found guilty on four of six charges

·

Matshela Seshibe, former acting chief executive of South African Airways, was found guilty on four of six charges in a disciplinary hearing at the airline’s catering subsidiary Air Chefs, Daily Maverick reports after studying the leaked 56-page outcome.

The findings concern approving pay rises for two executives without board approval, granting an acting allowance above the company’s 15 per cent cap, and failing to declare a conflict of interest over his close relationship with a colleague whose promotions he drove. He was cleared of creating a manager post unlawfully and of secretly expanding a manager’s duties.

According to SAA, the outcome disqualified him from becoming the airline’s permanent chief executive. Seshibe complained during the process that he was refused access to more than 70 documents he wanted for his defence.
