Meta has apologised after the Instagram account of the No Kings coalition, which organises nationwide protests against President Donald Trump, was taken offline for several hours on Saturday while demonstrations aimed at boosting early voting were under way, The Guardian reports.
Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said an automated system had wrongly treated a burst of high-volume activity on the account as bot traffic. He said a review restored it about an hour later, but sorting out admin access took longer, and called the action a clear error.
Organisers said they had posted only a few times and still wanted an explanation, saying it was unacceptable to restrict messages about voting during an election. Senator Bernie Sanders criticised the episode, and Senator Chris Murphy called for an investigation.
